Linkbaiting is very popular word nowadays in SEO. But everone dont understand the meaning of that or not used yet.
So those who dont know linkbaiting for them this is a small help :
Linkbait is a piece of content placed on a web page (article, blog post, picture etc) for collecting links from as many resources as you can.
Nowadays its very easy to get backlinks. If you have a new site launched, you can get 1000 links in a week, believe it.
In linkbaiting you will get massive traffic to your site just by using popular online tools like blogs, social networking sites etc. You just need to write unique stuff, post it to right sort of medium.
One great way to get traffic is create news on current event and publish it to the people with your link at the bottom, definately you will see increase in traffic to your site.
Also controversy can help in getting enough traffic. Just use it in right place and in effective words.
If your article is interesting and unique, readers will enjoy it and may exchange links with there friends so you will get enough traffic to your site.
Also you can promote your site through videos. Make site related or funny videos and post them on various sites like youtube, google video etc. They will definately entertain people and promote your site.
So i think link baiting is quiet good for promoting site untill your intention is good.
actually some link bait, was informative. let say i'am the user/reader. i find difficult about this word, so referring this word to your link where it also help the reader to understand such that word and i don't find this a spam. unless you put too much link in your content.. hehehhe..
I am not quite understanding the organic bit - i often offer lots of advice when i post on a relevant forum to what i do - how does google know the difference between an organic link and a not organic link?
Respectfully, I think that several of you do not understand what linkbait is, and you are automatically associating it with something negative.

Link bait is any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites. Attempts to create link bait are frequently employed in the overall task of search engine optimization. Matt Cutts defines link bait as anything "... interesting enough to catch people's attention." [1] Link bait can be an extremely powerful form of marketing as it is viral in nature. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_bait
Good advise. Forum posting and blog posting and replies have been a good source for oneway backlinks for my business. I continue to look for high ranked blogs and forums to post to. I get great traffic from this.
On a meta-level, I think of “linkbait” as something interesting enough to catch people’s attention, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. There are a lot of ways to do that, including putting in sweat-of-the-brow work to generate data or insights, or it can be as simple as being creative. You can also say something controversial to generate discussion (this last one gets tired if you overuse it, though). Sometimes even a little bit of work can generate a reason for people to link to you. http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-ad...d-linkbaiting/
