Using Blog for SEO
I debated on whether this should go here or in the blog forum but I think it should be here. Mods, please move it if you feel different.
I am still very new to the SEO world but I did a few things right. I have a PR4 site and a related blog that is PR3. I'm not really using my blog to "cross sell" my site. It's just kind of there but not really being used and I rarely update it.
My question is should I be writing blog posts with links to my site. I'm assuming the answer is yes and to use my keywords as anchor text in the links. Does this really do any good since there will be multiple links from the same IP? Any other things I should be doing with my blog to cross promote my site?

You kinda answered your own question.
Let's take a look at the Internet's mythical Blog concept. A blog is Normally a free web page or subdomain provided for both personal and business uses. A blog is used to express yourself to the world, whether its about your pets, likes, dislikes, cravings, fashion, sales training, product reviews, etc.. Blogs have become quite popular and search engines tend to love them due to there richness in content. Just a reminder, your top search engines work on mathematical algorithms that scan a web page (Content) it then calculates the keyword density % and indexes the site according to the richest keywords found. Of course if it was that simple people wouldn't pay an SEO consultant thousands of dollars for top index rankings, however it is a factor.
You can type the key words "Free Blog" in google or yahoo and find a bunch of them. your options are limitless really, you can use someone else's blogger or you can build your own on your site, up to you. Below are a few ways to use a Blogger:
1.) Great if you don't have your own domain and hosting so that you can express yourself to the world.
2.) If you have limited space/bandwidth with your current hosting package a blog on another site is a great way to avoid using your own space up.
3.) If you set up your own blogger on your site it provides interactivity to get visitors to continue returning to your site, thus keeping a higher retention rate.
4.) Last but not least (And my personal favorite), You can use others bloggers as a Mass blogging campaign. What I mean by this is that you simply create Unique content rich blog articles, say you set a goal of 10 blogs per day for a duration of 30 days for your first campaign, thats 300 blogs in a month. For business (Link Popularity) purposes this is a great tactic to boost your inbound links to your main site, thus aiding in your index ranking and your potential Unique visitors. Just make sure to place an Anchored hyperlink to your main site on every blog you create. (Make sure and keep the blog content relevant to your site as well for the best results)
As you can see, there are bonuses to having blogs, whether its personal or business. I'm sure there are several more ways to use a blog that I didn't mention above. The top 4 are simply the ones I like the most.
Hope this helped.

Any time "The Artist"... The way I see it, If I am going to attempt to help anyone with their questions or at least put some added input into a debate, I might as well be providing something that can actually help. (Or forever hold my peace)
Thanks, I wish you best.

Post in blogs that are relevant to your niche and as much as possible, look for the ones that are "dollow".
Aside from SEO benefits, it is also a good source of direct traffic - so long as you post useful and relevant comments, you can't go wrong

So better create a blog that you can manage...limit its number and be sure it will not be wasted after just a month...

Post articles related to your site...
Blogging is also an effective way for site promotion..
If you're offering products and services create some articles about it and put a link direct to your site...
