Yes it does and yes, if the forum is important enough, yes it should. Forum signatures are usually 'dofollow'. Bear in mind that Google doesn't show every single backlink on its SE results.

Signature links are always counted as backlinks.. sometimes when you do that manual checking of backlinks especially in google, they do not show off all your backlinks, only random backlinks..

It will count as a backlink, if the page containing the thread itself is indexed.
If the forum has a very fast rate of posting and the thread has few posts,
the thread itself may get buried deep before the Googlebot comes calling.
It then it may never get indexed.

How do you come up to that idea? I guess it depends also on the traffic of certain forums..

Depends on the forum, some would be indexed faster than the others.

Tried and tested already, forum sigs reflect as backlinks Best about posting on relevant themed forum is that you target your potential audience as well.

It is really a good backlinks source but I think not all forum posts backlinks are counted in all SEs...
One of the fastest way to index a site is through forum posting sigs... That's why some spammers are doing it in forums, spamming them (forums) for the sake of their site...

If forums enable "no follow" attributes, they don't count. But still a nice way to draw traffic from fellow members

I posted on a related thread a few days ago, heres a portion in quotes:
Quote:
ScorpionAgency: I would eliminate the thought from my mind if I was you that Forums are a long lasting inbound link campaign. At best, if you're lucky you might get a thread you posted in to become a STICKY thread & permanently heading a forum (Probably the closest to a solid inbound link besides being referenced in the footer or partners spot).
A forum is always moving (The good ones that is), Rotating content & archiving stagnated topics.
I think if you focus more on the Viable Educational information provided in direct relation to the topic in question (Keeping the above in mind), you will generate the temporary "NOW" traffic, along with build a solid public relations connection. On top of that, if your site content is as viable & quality driven as your helpful answer was, you may have just accomplished the most Powerful inbound linking strategy - Organic Linking - (Meaning the reader placed a link on their site to you as a reference under their own free will)
Do I think Forum Campaigns in general are pointless? NO, I think that if you can provide Quality with each post you are contributing to the overall equation of success! However if you only post 1 -3 liners, or: Nice post, great job, I agree, looking good, hello, etc... you're simply waisting your time when you could be doing something more constructive to help your business.
Hope this helped!

I understand now how signature links works as backlinks. But I have searched for my backlinks from different tools. As I have signature links in this forum along with other respectable forums. But the results from that tools doesn't show any backlinks to my website. Does V7n uses nofollow attributes?? or is that tool not showing correct results?

Now that you mentioned it, I just checked the Source code of V7N & found that they do use allot of rel="nofollow" attributes, however all the signatures do NOT have that attribute attached. So they should show up as inbounds.
I even checked for a robots.txt file on the root index & didn't find one, just in case there was directional there.
It may be the tool you are using... Or the inbounds were placed into the Supplemental page list in the engine. This happens allot with forum threads that don't contain enough QUALITY / UNIQUE Content & another reason why you should always try & post more than 1-3 liners when participating in a thread.
