your funny.... I needed a laugh today.... So your telling me that your one liner is self converting & there is Nothing else on that page that categorizes as Quality content in order to lead the viewer to a purchase?

Could you maybe provide me with a live link to your page with a high conversion & only one lined content that you refer to? I am very interested to see how you do it yourself...

Obviously I am joking.

But just having Adsense on a page as a way to get off of a crap page has been too profitable in the past.

You know - end up on a high ranking page with nothing on it so you click the add to go someplace...anyplace..

Its not too great now which is good for the engines and their relevance.

A conversions or shopping site would need more work but one sale of my $300 product just isn't as good as a billion pennies that a click can pay.

Of course I am not factoring in longevity of the site or its value to clients but links, lead to PR and anchor text lead to SERPs so links are the traffic magnet.

Maybe user and visitor behaviour will be factored into how a site ranks at some point but right now links are the ace.

But I obviously say this because I am in the link selling business

I gathered that much... I really can't blame you for boosting the Hype & emphasizing on the NEED for more links when you sell them for a profit yourself.

I can't say that makes it the #1 rule of SEO Nor can I agree that it is better when put against Content in a Repeat / Referral / Retention scenario... (Long term business)

I will however agree that if you are looking for the fast penny NOW & have NO intentions for longevity in order to secure larger revenues later on the long term, Then sure. This falls in with the majority of fast money & get rich quick schemes though... short lived...Not very credible...

I wish you the best in that line of work though, I suppose as long as it pays your bills & you feel right about it, thats all that counts in your world.

Not totally what I am saying.

A great site with all the value in the world also needs links.

I am all for great original and useful content. MFA sites suck.

I just gave an example that links are the most important right now.

eg a PR 9 site with no content is right now more valuable than a good content site with no BL and no PR.

A site with great content needs links and natural growth is great but slow.

There is nothing wrong with submitting a site into every directory on the net.

There is nothing wrong with promotion and link building as long as it doesn't fall into a spam definition.

Content is more important if you ask me but you will at least need some way of marketing. It doesent necessarily have to be links from other sites and search engines though but those 2 are 90% of how people find websites.

Everybody has already stated their opinion on this topic.

To sum up - both are important, really! It is just prioritizing what should come first. And as what I always mention, great content is a prelude to easier link building. Furthermore, you really don't expect to make any conversion with just links and poor content.
