This had to happen eventually.

Wikipedia (Germany) only allows "trusted editors" to make instant changes, effectively turning the open model into...well...DMOZ. Will the main Wikipedia follow suit soon?

Gary makes several excellent comments about this change. It is important to note that this change does impact the "self-correcting model" Wikipedia was well known for. Wikipedia prided themselves on having the community correct mistakes within the encyclopedia. With this change, in my opinion, they are showing less trust in that model.

Interesting... Will be really interesting if en.wikipedia does the same.

They're definitely getting spammed to hell, but seem to be controlling it fairly well (at least compared to dmoz).

Then again, there was a ton of sketchy edits turned up by Wikiscanner. Lots of them wouldn't have been discovered otherwise. Maybe it's a lot worse than we know.
