Can you add keywords to and submit sub-sites?

We're in the process of setting up a sub-site from our main domain.

The address will be in the form www.ourdomain.co.uk/subsitename

Obviously we want to do some seo on the sub-site. Is adding keywords and submitting the sub-site's address to google likely to cause problems with the seo and keywords on our main site?

I wouldn't expect it to as it's a completely different site/folder.

you don't have to submit your subpage to google or SE.. just your main site.. spiders will going to indexed it as long as you continue link building... and its fine to add keywords for that particular page... ;-)

What Bogs Said... As to not sound like a broken record & simply repeat what he said in different words.

Treat each page as if it was the ONLY ONE. Optimize the page itself first & then add the inner cross links to pass some authority to other pages of the site.

Each page of a website should be looked at as a Unique doorway. I myself have several listings in the serp's for different pages of my site. The reason is because I optimize each page as if it was individual & then cross link it to the others.

& of course the better the quality content & Optimization is on each page, the better your chances are for organic inbound linkage & higher serp's positioning for the sub-page in question.
