Yes. They are paired off like that because the motherboard supports dual-channel DDR (two memory controllers), but you need to pair up your memory to take advantage of this.

Ive always thought about making my own PC - though ive just never had the confidence!! In general is it an easy thing to do/learn? Also how much do you expect to save in making your own?

I can honestly say, I've _never_ bought a pre-built PC. I've torn them apart and built them for over 10 years now and I've saved thousands of dollars by doing so. A pre-built vs. a custom...you can easily save a few hundred. It's not complicated at all.

Ok then thanks - do you know of any other sites/forums that will go through the simple steps of building your own PC?

Syntax SV266M Socket A AMD.
Supports:
AMD Athlon XP and Duron procs.
For the memory, looks like it's:
Maximum: 1GB (Unbuffere) or 2GB (Buffered)
You can google a search for the "Syntax SV266" and find the other specs.

Wow! I'm impressed!
Is it good or bad? It came with the box and I was just going to throw it away because it only has 96MB ram.

I think it's a good board...definitely wouldn't throw it away. You can add more RAM and make it a pretty cool system.

The only complaint that I can think of is that it only has 2 PCI slots, and I'm a gadget junky. Other than that, it appears to be a fairly nice board.

Yep, it's not very expandable. But it probably has integrated sound and networking (not sure), so you won't need extra PCI slots for it.

If it's not integrated, you'd use them for sound, networking, any other kind of expansion...there's tons of different kinds of expansion cards.

If I change out the motherboard, do I have to re-install WinXP Pro?
