Proper Use of Meta Keywords
Wasn't sure if this should be in the blogging section or here. I operate a WP blog that has meta keywords built into every page, in addition I have a plugin that generates meta keywords and inserts them as well.
However, I'm wondering if I need to remove one or the other to be effective. Essentailly there are 2 completely different instances of [<meta name="keywords" content="], is this incorrect, or more importantly will it cause penalization amongst the SE's?

That's what I thought, but that's what the plugin creates. I'm wondering if I should remove the original meta keyword instance in the theme...

Are you original meta tags global? In other words, are they the same for every page? If so, what im thinking is that the plugin my allow you to customize meta data for each individual page... not stating this as a fact since its difficult to know without seeing the page and doing some tests...

Exactly, my original tags are global, that's why I'm wondering if it's ok for me to delete these, or should I just leave the global tags with teh plugins added as well.

Install as long as whatever it is you are installing allows you to customize meta data for individual pages, otherwise, i dont see why you would be installing whatever it is you are installing...

I find best results with individual meta keywords and meta tags for each page. I view my meta information as an outlet to search engines to view what each individual page is about and has to offer so they can relay that message to their viewers and send them to my pages.. if you have the same meta keywords and meta content on every page.. your search engine results will be pretty boring.. I only know because I can see this scheme working on all my sites.

Guys, I understand the benefit of it, but that's not my question. My problem is the two instances of meta keywords, is that a problem?

choose the one that allows you to customize it. Forget about the one that doesn't.

Yes. I saw someone do that.. and it completely ruined their SEO.. I tried to tell them they had to use one or the other cause one was getting ignored.. they never changed it.
Go with the unique keywords per page... don't stuff a page with non-related keywords.. if some keywords are related, include them in the other keywords you need for that page. I'm only guessing here.. but I think that search engines will see and use your first set of meta stuff.

There is no benefit at all to a meta keyword tag, so why worry about it, my sites don't have them at all
