Is target="_blank" in url considered a pop-up?

Using target="_blank" for your external links has some advantages and disadvantages. Are they considered to be a "pop-up" or intrusive?

Do they lessen the user experience?

Any ideas would be helpful.

I don't think that they can be considered as popups (for example they are not killed by the Pop-Up Blocker from Yahoo! Toolbar).

It is considered EXACTLY as a non _blank link.

its not considered a pop-up window. it just open in another tab or window which also like you open browser again.

No. It is use in order for your link site open in another window which your site will not be affected still in the visitor's (users) task bar panel.

Advantage of it is that the user (visitor) will see your site and not be overwrite by another site (link)...Meaning your site is still visible in user's task bar...

So the user can still browse your site if it is in their task bar not the other link.

It is not considered as pop-up because it is a legal command that will open another window that is related to the one you are viewing.

No its not...
target is just an attribute of anchor tag that tells web browser where to open the link.,. "blank" will open the link in a new browser window.
