Keywords and backlink tool
I hope someone can help...here goes:
we all know how important keywords are. also, back links with your keyword in it is important.
Is there a tool where I can type in a keyword and it would tell me how many backlinks I would need to be ranked well OR how many backlinks the top sites have to be ranked well on that keyword.
My site is ranked well on certain keywords. When I do a serach query in google it tells me there is 123,000 pages. I understand this is peanuts and means my keyword is not very competitive.
When I search on another keyword I get 6,260,000 pages. Very competitive.
Obviously you can be ranked well on a noncompetitive keyword, but you may not get much traffic. It only took me about 50 backlinks to be ranked with the noncompetive keyword.
But the very competitive keyword is another story. I keep asking myself, how many backlinks do I have to get with this keyword in it, to even get in the top 30 of google. Hence, I started searching for such a tool, but can't find.
A tool lke wordtracker doesn't do what I want. It can tell me a keyword popularity, but doesn't tell me how many backlinks I need or even better, how many backlinks the top sites for this keyword have to get ranked well in google.
I know there are other things to consider...like on page optimization, but that isn't a concern.
Any suggestions or tools that can help.
thanks
steve.

I also know that backlinks are a huge thing when getting ranked for different keywords.. but what im attempting to find out, is if there is any other methods BESIDES backlinks to increase your ranking for different keywords.

To be able to answer your question we would have to completely understand Google's algorithms. There are a whole bunch of factors that effect SERP placement so it is impossible to say "well if you just had another 69 links, with this anchor text, you would be ranked #2 in the SERP".

completely understood compar. however, do you know of good ways to increase the POSSIBILITY of getting listed for certain keywords, i.e. web design (highly competitive), web development (same), etc...
I already know the backlinks strategy and am working on that now. However, I'm looking for other ways to optimize, market, etc.
any ideas?

when I type in a web site that comes up on page one it tells me how many links they have... that gives me a good idea of how many backlinks I need to compete....

Correct, but I assumed everyone knew this. Also it tell you how many links but it doesn't tell you how many with that particular search term as anchor text. And I think this is the real question you have to ask when fighting for a SERP position for any particular search term. It also doesn't tell you how many links on pages with PR less than 4.
So there is just a whole lot that this information does not tell you.
As far as other areas there really are none. Everyone knows about on-page stuff and it should be done and be right, but in the end there is nothing with the power or impact of backlinks for competitive search terms.

Since there is no tool like he asked... this is the only tool that I know of that gives one an indication of backward links when the google toolbar is not an option.
What did you assume again?

Why do you need to know how many backlinks you would require to compete? You should just be obtaining backlinks all the time, from everywhere.
This isn't something that should ever stop - When you are at the top for your targeted keyword you'll know you have enough backlinks - but to stay there you are going to have to keep gaining them to stay ahead of the competition.

Anchor text
You can always check what site contains the most anchor txt for a certain phrase or key phrases
Type this in google search box with your contained anchor phrase or text ----> allinanchor:example
I have tried this with the term Dance mixes and I was 3rd

That is the Example on the index page of UptimeBot - digits redirect you to the forum to explain what they mean. To check your domain name you should enter your domain name in search field and press the red arrow button (This is for single domain check). To check several domains at once and receive detailed statistics on your e-mail you should register (Registration link is situated under the "login" and "password") field of Mass Link Popularity Check string.
And please, if there are ANY questions, troubles, malfunction, that you have discovered using our service - tell us by writing it on forum or e-mail us.
Besides, we are currently writing and adjusting a couple of new script modules. Detailed stats for each SE, submission list, etc. And we have already started script which crawls any toplist showing all sites submitted in any particular toplist and all backwards of these sites. But the script is not currently free. However we will add free stuff and continue working on UptimeBot.
Thanks.
