Nah, SEO means Search Engine Optimisation - optimising a web site to rank well in the search engines. The answer's in the name.

I'm not taking it personally at all . It's like saying, if you're a successful author, why don't you publish your own books. That sort of question is usually met with a puzzled look.

So if it's to make money & they were that good at it, why wouldn't they do it for them self to make 100% profits Vs. the 20%-35% investing the same amount of time for someone else to make less money?
You never answered that one....

Actually, I never wanted to be an SEO in the first place. I was 2 years into a Law degree and my brother asked me to look at this SEO stuff - he just kept banging on at me until I gave in and looked at it. After months of me telling him to push off, I then found it was really interesting, and the first thing I did went to number 1. That was for those high paying guys I was talking about.
So sure, like most people I do need a job, but I'm not chasing money other than to maintain a certain comfort level. I'm not rich by any means whatsoever and I don't feel a burning need to be rich. I certainly, absolutely don't want the hassle of owning a business. I'd rather be reading books, writing sonnets or trying to finish off my often-rejected novel.

I never challenged your ability on a personal level I am merely debating what some Think an expert is. You shouldn't take it so personal - it's bad for the blood pressure -

I know you were weren't challenging me, scorp, I never thought you were. I just think you're argument is wrong. I'm one of the calmest people I know. When the dentist hovers over me about to take out a molar, I'm utterly slack.
All I was trying to establish was my credentials for whether I have a clue about the topic.

Right, Optimizing a web page for the SOUL purpose of marketing it in the engines.. Otherwise, it would remain just a page & there would be NO competition. The marketing aspects is what makes the competition..

OK, but if you can't make a page rank well, you can't do SEO. Can we agree on that much at least?

Of course, I totally agree with that... I wouldn't call it ranking though... I might call it "Positioning".. Just that (To Me) the word "Rank" itself tends to be for the wrong purposes.
I know we mean the same thing though... So I can agree with that...

Should a page need to be optimised to rank well?
How hard is it to
Cut down on the amount of bloat
Have unique keyword enriched page relevant tags
Use anchor texting throughout a site
Have mechanisms so the owner can add their own links and unique content
Make sure the site has plenty of good keyword enriched copy
The site displays terms and conditions and a privacy poilicy if applicable
On-site sitemaps and google sitemaps added
Now I view all of these things as 'the norm', if every site incorporated these basic aspects, what would be the need of an SEO specialist? For sure there would be the need for linking building.
The only reason there are so many SEO providers is down to the amount of dross produced by designers.
If I buy a new car, I don't expect someone to say, your car will only perform well if you spend another 5k on a super tune up. This is the same with websites, why are they not designed to incorporate SEO fundamentals, out of the box?

They should be... I include Basic SEO fundamentals with every design.. It's a pain in the butt to have to go back into a design & Optimize it after it was already completed. Which is why I try my best not to get involved with any SEO type clients with pre-existing sites - Normally an off the wall rate starting at $100.00 per hr + additionals keeps them away & if by chance they still agree, then at least it's worth my time.
I am NOT an SEO Consultant by the way.. I just have a grasp on the Fundamentals enough to secure decent positioning.
Blending - Webdesign, SEO/SEM, Branding, & Copy writing seems to be a market cornering niche for me.
So far so good anyways... I still continue to learn something new everyday.. the way I see it, when I stop learning is the day of my funeral...

In regards to SEO there are only 2 main issues, these are what I mentioned earlier
links
content
The rest are of importance but less so. Scorp you will probably find you know more than 75% of SEO providers.
The place a lot of people fall down is in link building, the majority of people think 1 good article spread across 900 sites and their site submitted on 1,000's of directories will do the trick. The truth of course is something different. This is probably why our link building services are better subscribed to than our SEO services.

For me..
Someone considered to be a professional in the field Search Engine Optimization.
A person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist; authority. And who provides Internet strategy and marketing services.
