SEO and ethics

We've talked about what makes someone an SEO expert, but as we all know, there are many ways to "skin the cat". If you knew you could get a top 3 ranking in all of the SE's using a certain frowned upon method, and that there was a 30% chance of getting banned, or deindexed, would you do it for your sites and or your clients site?
