Question regarding link building

First of all thanks for a great site with very useful information. I have learned alot from reading the various articles on this site.

You preach link building as the best way of getting ranked high for competitive keywords but after reviewing a few of your sites (v7, plasma), I don't see any type of link/directory page so how are you getting thise inbound links?

Web directories, sponsoring websites, buy links.

I guess it's someplace to start. Most of the really competitive keywords will require heavy linking and that means buying links.

Ok so do you think having a link directory is a good idea? I have read that recipricol linking is a thing of the past.

Links are links are links. Whether or not they are reciprocal doesn't matter.

But that is time consuming. I prefer sponsoring sites, or building them myself. www.v7inc.com has PR7 mostly due to links from this forum and other sites I own.

having a link directory means that you have a designated place to put someones link if you agree to swap links with a webmaster - better than sprawling them all over your website in random places.

As john said - links are links - get them anywhere and anyhow you can.
