Money and SEO

This is a hypothetical question which means, there is no right or wrong answer. If you choose not to answer no big deal, but I thought it would be interesting to see what people's wish lists were like.

The question is, If you could spend your money on one thing or one tool to help you improve your sites organic rankings, what tool would it be? If you have already done this, what was that tool? and If you have already done this and the tool didn't work as advertised, what was it.

We're only looking for ones that you would pay for. Not the free ones. After a few answers I will tel you mine.

"on one thing" ?

Answer: DIY SEO. This is the most expensive because potential failures will waste your time and motivation especially.

Only tool I really & Truly feel that was worth spending money on (As far as Organic whitehat goes) was "Trellion - Keyword discovery" http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/

This tool was worth every penny....

Nah I'll just keep the money and do the SEO thing, there
are lots of thing as an SEO can do to increase organic traffic
and acquire high PR, though I think PR is not of much attribute.

I appreciate the altruistic answers but it's a hypothetical question. See ex. below.

"I'd like to give you this 9,000 square foot beach home." "No thanks, I prefer my double wide."

well, hypothetical or not, I stand firm on my decision to purchase only one software (Listed in last post) . To me the others are Buzz driven & Pointless..

Yours was good Scorp. The other responses were a little too bent on self·aggrandizement although Jan's had some merit.

I personally do my own seo and have taught myself everything, but if i had to spend my money on seo related tools etc, i would certainly go with google adwords or other similar advertising program

Tools, let me think... as far as I can recall, never bought a licensed tool before for marketing. But if you consider PPC as a tool, I would have to place my vote on it as I find this result-oriented.

I also use WordTracker (free version) from time to time for keyword analysis on certain niche. IMO most SEO tools are for analysis purposes only, most work are to be done manually for more efficiency.

After looking at the answers, I'd probably run with ppc as well. How bout Web Position anyone use it before? Although I just read where submitting to any search engines beyond the top 5 is useless.

well, there's well over 5,000 engines.. The top 5 are the most popular of course.. However, define Useless for me..

I receive traffic from some of the small (Useless) engines according to my server stats. So to me, I wouldn't totally rule them out...

In addition, I am kinda shocked that I am the only one (so far) that thinks Keyword research is important in SEO & deserves spending some money on a good researching tool.

It would definitely have to be a keyword research tool, an analytics package, or for a non SEO person the econsultancy SEO manual would be a good buy.

1. I'd buy some links
2. A good analytics pkg.
3. A code monkey
4. A stunt double to do all of the grunt work.

Umm, analytics is great But in the keyword realm its only good to analyze the keywords already being used (After the fact). Kinda pointless when you need to find good traffic yielding long tail or strong keywords prior to launching a site or expanding on one.

Granted there are some free keyword tools available out there, I am still a firm believer that free is free for a reason & 9 times out of 10 you get what you pay for (With Honest Products /services). Most of these tools give an estimated # that is normally way off or show you the search results (Claimed to be a daily average) from 7-30 days ago (Which is why they are free).

Google Analytics is great & free, I use that all the time in addition to my Server analysis chart that comes with my hosting package. The numbers are different amazingly (Possibly because it's free), so I compare the 2 in hopes for a more accurate answer. It does give me a general idea on statistics though.

To each our own I suppose, it is interesting to see what tools people relate to SEO & what they use.

Though SEO is comprised of several elements (A majority of which complement the Design / Layout), I have always prioritized Keywords as one of the MOST important seeing that thats the basis of how people find you in the engines (Thus SEO - Search Engine Optimization).

I know I can be overly Opinionated at times, I suppose it's in my nature.

i don't think i would pay anything for seo purposes accept for keyword research tools. i think most seo companies buying links to get better ranking. and when people stop subscribe to their services the ranking go down. what a waste of money.
