my visitors doesn't stay long, how come?
guys, i need your suggestions. my boss talked to me and he's asking me about those visitors in my site that are visiting but doesn't stay longer than i expected. I have this 2000 visitors per day but 43.44% to 55% of it are living immediately from the site. Now what he wanted me to do is to think of something that will encourage visitors to stay long. He wants me to give some idea on what we could do on the main page that will encourage visitors to sign up or stay long. Please give me some idea. You can criticise it if you want.
Any suggestions will help. Here's my site
Thanks a lot!

First you should think yourself as a visitor that what you would like to see on the site as a user.
You can change the design of the site to make it look more attractive and appealing as the present one looks a bit cramped up IMO. You may also want to add some more information about Australia and its places to visit, its culture and traditions with an updated picture book having a variety of pictures in it which will surely get hold of a lot of your visitors.

yes, i thought of that, I considered myself as a visitor and I got bored on the site.. then I told that to my boss, and he simply said, we're not going to put any pics on the main page because of his reasons I couldn't get til now. He just wanted me to think of some other ways on how we are going to make those visitors stay long. what else can you suggest? please guys.. any suggestions will help.

The layout and content of your site seems to be fine. What are your advertising campaigns like? Do you have a link somewhere that is advertising something completely different from what your website actually provides? You may have a target market confliction.

Dont put the pics on the main page but just a link to the inside pages from the home page where there will be a photo album or something of that sort.
If not this then try adding some more information in text form which is related to people who want to live in Australia with attractive topic heading which must take a grasp on the users mind when they just read the title.
Modern day users are always on the look for new and informative material on the internet which should be of interest for them to re-visit your site as there is a vast sea of information for the users to choose from.

I see.. ok.. I'll try to tell that to him.
But he wanted something to be changed of from the main. He wants to redesign the index page, oh well! not totally redesigned, he wanted to add something and he's asking me some ideas..

another thing to consider is that a lot of people are coming to your site thinking about coming to australia, they are in research mode, rather than "buy in" mode. They just have a quick scan and possibly favourite it for a later date. Do you get many returning visitors?

site looks good but for me there's nothing special about it. Mark07 is right. Maybe you should put some pictures of places and kangaroos (just kidding) on the site. Plus their tourists spots and everything that's special about going to Australia...

In order to keep visitors longer you need something to pull them in. Something to catch their attention right off the bat and have them wanting to know more.
If your boss doesn't want pictures think of a hook. Something really catchy that if you went to the site caught your eye.

The main page seems so typical... For my point of view, try something new... Try making it into an interactive one... Put some designs that will surely attract your customers attention, for instance put something that is moving.. Some animations or something.. Put also some interactive galleries that will surely attract visitors and let them feel that they are in Australia when they visit to your site. Just think outside the box.. Sky is the limit but be sure you are still in presentable in a formal way.

like what they are all trying to say that you may put more picture or if your boss
doesn't want to put additional picture, you can put those tourist spots on the
header of the page or a flash slide at the side of the page where you are showing
those tourist spots, after all some says that first impression last.

Indeed, when a visitor click on your link and your design is more pleasing to the eyes, and the
information they've read is very useful and informative, there is a more chance that
your visitor will stay long and may return too. Some visitors looks on the design first and
then the content(depending on what kind of site). In your case, a tourist are looking for
places that they can relax and if they see some preview of the places
you are offering they are encouraged to visit the place that your site is offering!

Yep... Just think outside the box.. Be creative... (for instance, put koalas in the scene... Hehee joke.) Anything creative will be tolerated but what I've said earlier, it should be formal. You are representing a country and it should be as formal as it is, also it shouldn't be boring. Just balance it in between.

Yes, your site should be attractive. If visitors won't attract much in your home page, definitely they will go away.
