SEO link optimization

Hey everyone,

I was wondering how I should go about optimizing the phrasing that links to me use in order to get the best SEO results.

Just for example purposes, lets say I wanted to rank highly for the keyword 'flower'. Now, just having a link named flower isn't very interesting to any user that happens upon the link. It's spot on as far as what I want to rank high for in SEO though.

Now, say I added some other words around the keyword that I wanted to rank high for, e.g. 'The best flower ever'. This is obviously more appealing to any users that happen upon the link, but will it help me rank in the search engines more, equal, or less than just 'flower'?

it all depends on how you use the links, if its contextual links.

links that get placed in text such as articles

these are the best type of links, it helps to vary the link text

now how you use the links as you suggested with expanding the link text from flower to 'The best flower ever' has to do with SEM, Search Engine Marketing

Once this gets into the search engines and is visible getting someone to click that link is what your doing for SEM

but this will not get you any higher rankings in particular the root word flower is there and the search engines look at all the variations to make its determination

What I will tell you is that it is important to have many variations of your link text, people who link to you naturally will create different link text variations and the SE's are looking for this

I think, see first if its competitive or not.
See its searches a month, what's the use of that keyword if no one uses it..

'flower' and 'The best flower ever' it totally different

let's say flower was used by thousand of people and 'The best flower ever' was just used by hundreds of people so better used flower even if 'The best flower ever' is more appealing..

so link build using the anchor flower instead of 'The best flower ever"

well if you use it for your link submissions.. you should use descriptive title.. as long as you include the targeted keywords... but just like what EdC said it depends if its contextual linking... you can also try other way to emphasize keywords trough on-page..

contextual linking is one of the most important seo tool for a competitive keyword
SE would based on the quality of links on the content of the subject and vice versa.. Contextual Link perfectly describe its content

Try to search more related keyword of "flowers".

Put it in any keyword tool (adword keyword tool) it will tell you the realted keywords.

Now start doing link building with these other popular and related keywords, remember "flower" should must be in that keywords.

Now when you reach a level where you are ranking good for these related keywords (you rankings for "flower" are incresing simult.). Now start building links with Only "flowers".

flower is a broad keyword try using other keywords like "Discount flowers online"... You can use anchor text for it and post in your signature...
