what is more important to SE's.. in-page links or keywords?
prob a rookie question, but I am a rookie, soo...
what is more important to most SE's?
ex. 1
motorcycles for sale in texas
ex. 2
(pretend this is a link) motorcycles for sale in texas
both phrases would be on the home page, and the link would point to another page in my site that has relevant content.
thanks in advance guys

You must checked first the density and prominence of your keyword before using it as an anchor text that links to your site's sections or pages. It also affects the ranking of your site when search engine bots performs crawling.

For me, they are both the same. The only difference between them is that ex 2 will help your deep links to be visible to spiders.

as long as... "Keyword stuffing" are not done in you page.. and in your case.. like they stated.. there's no difference with the two.

I think they are both helpful in optimizing the website... But I think using keywords as your anchor text will boost more traffic and your site will easily crawl by the search engines.

both are crawlable but I prefer number two because it is anchor text and it is an IBL to your site which is helpful or I should say one factor in SERPs...If that's your targeted keyword...

Generally the anchor text link will be moving the keywords juice to the page where the link has been pointed.
So if your home page is optimized for that phrase than put it as a text in bold without link, as you don’t want to move the juice to another page.
But if your other page (where the link will be pointed) is optimized for that phrase than put as a link.

thanks for the responses everyone (esp. skgold and coolguy... your responses were especially helpful )
Now, one more stupid question (and this should betray my complete incompetence in what I am doing )....when you say Incoming anchor text links, what exactly do you mean.
Is that the text next to an incoming link from another page/website?
Thanks!

Well........its better to have second one. As using your keywords in anchor is always better than a simple text. But you should first check for keyword density of your page and if its ok by doing this then it is ok to use your keywords in anchor text.

Both will have the same benefits. Both include the same keywords. Should do well in both if you focus on one.

Also consider using the incoming anchor links for the benefit of your visitors. Just don't overdo it. Only link to specific anchors that lead to useful pages within your site

thanks for the advice guys. I am playing around with anchor links on a few of my other sites, and am finding it works great at getting certain keywords to convert into referals from google on my site. Glad I made this thread a few months ago!
