Hi there.

A clients wants their site optimised for a really simple keyword, but there are two problems: the budget does not allow for link building and I cannot modify the copy text except for "title" "img alt" and "link title". Does, the keyword is mentioned only once in the actual page copy text.

I am considering to use something like this:

The keyword site would not work with javascript turned off.
Pleas allow javascript in your browser.

Thank you.
Your keyword team.

1. Will be the keywords within the <noscript> tag counted for by Google ?
2. Is there any chance for being penalised for this technique? I have considered keywors hidden by CSS, but I suppose that <noscript> solution is safer.

Used to (and still do sometimes) add text like this in the <noframes> tag and that was counted by google (and still is)

I'm seeing quite a few sites using text within noscript tags, usually find them in forum threads looking for help.

Your client seems perfect for passing on to a competitor... ;-)

Unless you spam between the noscript tags, I see no reason for Google to penalize you for using it.

Also, try to get them into directories such as DMOZ and Zeal.

I also believe that G would have to become paranoid to penalise noscript text if it will look naturally.

Is it good for the end users?
In this case, if the site truely doesn't work with JavaScript turned off, then yes. (But remember most text/speach browsers will expose this and their users usually can't change to a javascript browser.)

Best case scenario: You get 2 more keywords occurances.
Worst case scenario: You get the site blacklisted.

Is it really worth it? I would tell your client to get a bigger budget or set them a schedule for self-promotion and long term content development, as well as getting in dmoz.

you can put descriptive text and links of whatever was in your script (such as java navigation) in an indexable form within a noscript tag. generally i do not use java navigation or noscript tags.
