a9.com from Amazon

http://a9.com/ from amazon works well though to me it looks too much like Google.

Hit or a miss?

interesting, in a strange sort of way i like it

good end user features compared to how most SEs have few if any end user features:
http://a9.com/-/company/whatsCool.jsp

i wonder if because of this they will abandon Alexa... it has been losing popularity for quite a while, and is likely seen as a failed project anyway.

Yes I like the interface and the cosmetics.

As far as Alexa goes I think this may do exactly the opposite. Alexa has a site review function. It will do for web sites what Google does for books, give the searcher reviews to read. I think that is a big plus. With any other search engine you have a title and a 10 or 20 snippet at best, to try and judge the site from.

you mean what amazon does for books?

I like the amazonish interface, and how it ties in well with the books. I love reading and sometimes honestly i would like to know a certain book or whatever that relates to what I am looking up.

I like the search history as well, sometimes i'll do research and then clear my cache and forget what i looked at, so i have to sit around and guess for a while.

I like the diary part too. I'll enjoy making personal comments on people's site, or if it is a really in depth site i'll put where to find this or that. I wish they would let you make on page comments, probably more of a browser issue than a tool bar though. I'd mark up websites if i could.

Finally i like the whole dynamic search, where you can move the book suggestions. This works great for those who just want to view the search, or for those who want to view the books. Makes it where amazon is not pushing down your throat to buy their books, but it is there none the less if you so desire.
