Overoptimized, underoptimized, or just plain crap
We are currently working on several aspects of our site, on page optimization, backlinks, new areas of our tax help section, creating a forum, while also trying to test our software. We were just wondering if our page is over-optimized, under-optimized, or we have just gone way out into left field with this. I don't know if I can post my url in here so don't banish me. onlinetax.net

I'd say you're over-optimised. Did you just change your homepage title bar while I was looking at it?

OK, well it was a good change.
Internal pages don't look too bad, the homepage is definitely too stuffed. Try this tip: don't use the word tax more than once in any twenty word segment, that should get you looking at a more realistic level. That's quite basic, I know, but 5% keyword density for the word tax is what it achieves, and that's about right if not slightly high. (A site I optimised some years back is still top ten on Google UK for: tax advice - so it's good stuff to follow )

Over-optimized! From the looks of it, too spammy.

Always write for the visitor. Traffic does not good if you can't convert them into a sale.
Using adwords tool for related terms (and others) can help you write for the visitor and still get some onpage attention. Most SEO weight is off page anyway.
