Targeting Keywords

I wanted to ask is there a trick to targeting keywords? I understand the concept but I have never gone after big words before. For example I want to be on the first page of google for the terms "Air Force" and "Army".

Is this as simple as building links with that in the Anchor text pointing to my site? How do I go about this? I think this is going to be something cool that I have never done before so I am a bit excited becuase I think I have a really good chance at a run for the big boys on these terms.

I took my new site and with 14 days of owning it I am on the front page of google with most of my keywords. I owe that to v7n for teaching me everything over the last 2 years!

So for example if I put Air Force Collectibles, will I come up for Air Force? and Air Force Collectibles?

It is much advisable to have only your target keyword in your anchor text

You could also submit your site to different web directories and put your title as Air Force. It will also help to achieve higher position in keyword ranking.

I think it is not simple but not that hard at all, it is not that important how many
anchor text and links pointing at your site coming from different sites but rather
how will you get those quality links from relevant ones!

IMO You can come up to Air Force and Air force Collectibles.

Using keywords as anchor text will definitely drive more traffics from your site.

You must target your major keywords that links to your site...always check your
keyword ranking from SERP for you to be able to come up with right keywords to use.

just keep on building links in it. and use your keywords strategically. do not over do it to prevent keyword stuffing.

i think using keywords as anchor text might improve the popularity and ranking of your site and at the same time gaining quality backlinks but just be careful on using your keywords coz it might consider as keyword stuffing...

you can do it trough on-page and off-page.. on-page: emphasizing keywords to your content, linking text to other page or content.

on off-page: link building, submissions using your targeted kws as link or text name.

Yeah i agree with you link building and using keyword as anchor text could be very effective

Yup, that would be definitely helpful to increase visitors to your site and easily crawl by the search engines....

If you want to rank for those terms then getting them in the anchor text of inbound and internal links will be a major factor for being able to rank for those terms. Besides that you will want have those keywords located in your title, header tags and in the content of the page.
