Well......article submission and rss submission, social bookmarking are the best way to get inbound links as well as traffic in my opinion. Blogging, posting comments on articles, forum postings, writing testimonials are also good in terms of providing traffic but these type of links are not considered as backlinks by search engines.........oh....I forget about press release, it is also a good source of traffic and inbound link as well.
