having too many keywords is somewhat hard to maintain...You will have to check each keyword's ranking which takes a lot of time of course...if you are focus to only 1, for sure you will manage it very well and also, if you are satisfied with what you achieve on that keyword, you always have the choice to target another keyword if you want for better organic searches.

If it's a very competitive term, there's no better way to do but to start with the long-tail KWs. IMO, it's better to have several target KWs 'coz it makes the site more visible in SERPs.

right corlock, having one doesnt promise not to change in wholetime, and it's more challenging to have many target Kw

It's really much better to have several keywords than focusing on one keyword alone. As simple as, more keywords more chances!

Small heaps make big piles!

Ranking for a lot of long tail phrases is better then to rank for one competitive phrase/keyword.

Single keywords are in general very competitive and if you're revenue is dependent on that keyword alone you're putting yourself or the company in this case at risk.

Besides that, conversions come mostly from long tail searches

And why would it take to much time checking rankings?

A: Don't check your rankings so much, check your traffic logs.
B: There is software available that automates this stuff for you.

Fifteen keywords takes you one minute to check rankings for.

I second that!

Cool

Using more targeted keywords are better because it helps your site to be easily seen and crawled by search engines. Although it would take so long to wait for its good results, it's really worth it to do...
