Does social bookmarking sites really help in bringing traffic?

People are talking about social bookmarking sites on all the forums but is it really worth bookmarking to these sites? Because I ve never seen anybody at my workplace or friends talking about these sites?Does anybody even know abt this outside the seo world?

And another question I had is the does links from these sites are counted as "backlinks" by Google?

Social bookmarking sites can bring traffic...but is it targeted? Not likely. As far as Google counting them as backlinks shouldn't matter. They only show "the important ones" in their eyes, so any backlink is good for referral trafic.

they bring traffic and backlinks, there great, see.. iv been on the front page of digg a few times, and its not just digg you get links from but the sites that use diggs feed aswell

social bookmarks are good source of traffic and backlinks. Websites like Digg and Stumbleupon are good in this.

Most social bookmark sites use nofollow so they don't count as backlinks. There are a few that don't use nofollow though.

agree with cEejay,... because most of SB uses no follow
like for example, stumbleupon and digg..
it only brings huge traffic but not backlinks

so if you'll submit your webpage to social bookmarking sites, you have to choose wisely. it's beneficial to target two birds with one stone.. right? (getting backlinks and traffic all at the same time is better i think)

this sb sites use no follow...

Social bookmarking is effective in bringing traffic for a site. Social bookmark with no follow link tell them that it should not pass the "link juice" or page rank. It will help people to reduced the "spam link" and so as to get better results when it was link.

Social bookmarking which do not use no follow.

SB sites are counted as backlinks...but most if them uses nofollow tag...they sue this to prevent passing the link juice and preventing for spamming....
SB sites are also a good source of traffic....

you're right, it give temporary traffic.. i think. this something posting continuously great article/topic in order to have a continuous traffic, even though some SB site has no follow attribute, at least your site was visible in SE.
