It's not cheating. Just Using a tool to get a better rankings just like using a tool to get a good ranking on google or yahoo

Yes, it's trash but most people don't know that, and some businesses point to their ranking to give themselves (false)web status. I had one chap on the phone (I forget what he was selling) who pointed me to their Alexa ranking. For some types of business web status is very useful - however false.

well, if exactseek (I think that's what it's called) ever becomes popular, alexa ranking will be important.
Right now, it's just trash, but still funny to watch, especially because they say I get about 3 or 4 pageviews per visitor, but in reality, it's more like between 1 or 2.

Alexa sucks!!!! It is based on BS! However, if you have a high Alexa rating it will help you pull in sales and investment $. "Can't live with it, can't live without it"

maybe some of those people that think that only good sites have high alexa rankings would prefer to advertise on those sites..

the same people who are that ill informed probably do not have an original idea or good business model to promote. they might give you short term revenue, but in the long run I don't think it makes a huge difference with most people.

It never hurts to announce that your alexa ranking is so and so ... with a disclaimer that alexa isn't known to be highly accurate ... helps with credibility and marketing ...
Marketing? Well, I read an interesting article about Alexa ratings ... the author said that Alexa ratings can be considere as 'samplings' ... something like the poll samplings taken during every election process where the rating points of politicians are determined based on a surveys of a small part of the population ... It can be argued that Alexa ratings is trying to show the perceived traffic of a site ... Though alexa sampling method does seem flawed, I don't see an ethical issue in using it to market a site if we also make it a point to add a disclaimer ...

When google® index's your site, it will see in your log that you are receiving loads of hits thus giving your site more listing results simply because the googlebot thinks your site must be relevant so it increase your results!

google will not index your pages more frequently because you spammed alexas ranking systems.
google already has a more broad toolbar install with their own system that they would have no reason to trust, pay for, or use alexa data in any way.

I haven't paid my 25 bucks yet, but I might do it anyway. 2 PR 4 links, 1 PR 2 link and maybe some traffic. It's proably worth it.

any time you get links for a one time fee and it seems like the site is quality and going to be up for a long time then it is worth it.
i totally do not mind dropping close to a grand just registering my sites with directories.
