Duplicate Content Vs Backlink query

Hi all,

Just a question about submitting the same article to many article directories. You've all heard about about the duplicate content issue. I'm not really bothered by this since the worst I've heard is that Google will stick it in their supplemental index. I don't have time to rewrite each article 20 times as much as I'd like to. I'm just keen on getting backlinks to push each page up in rankings for a particular keyword phrase.

Is this cool? Or will google take the weight off backlinks that get stuck in the supplemental index?

Good question. My first reaction is to think google would compare the documents and value only the original... but if you look at portal sites like Answers.com, they often scape content from Wikipedia and still rank.

When my pages get stuck in the sup. index, I have a hard time getting them out. I always just rewrite the articles and focus on internal backlinking within my site. I never really considered the effects of quality backlinks from trusted domains.

I would also like to here more opinons on this.

I don;t think supplemental backlinks carry as much weight. I have a ton of articles in supplemental. However, they still send steady traffic.

just like what google result of their backlinks they not showing all backlinks.. i think they filter quality links..

Interesting, opinion from some seo expert said in couple of months back that links from SI web pages does not hurt but carry minimum weight. However, with current action from google merging SI into the main index, yet to see how this is going to affect the overall seo weight.

some old sites are reported bouncing back to the top (if these pages were in SI before, now a link from them should carry quite some weight). Still early to say anything concrete, we will have to see how google settle down, perhaps after couple of weeks later.

conflict might arise between the original content and the duplicate one (regarding SERPs ranking) but i think that SEs will give more weight on the original one

IMO it doesn't much harm your site, and i think having supplemental result can only effect only with rankings. so even if its supplemental it can give also traffic and BL as well.. (correct me if iam wrong.. )

Ive been doing article submission before to tons of article directory, and haven't seen any affect on my backlinks, well in fact I got loads of backlinks coming from their site as well as traffic.. But if i were you be sure not to put on your article into your handled site, that would probably make some negative effect IMO..

If your site or pages has PR it is likely out of supplemental index..

Depends where you are going. If your purpose in BL, perfect idea to submit your articles as long as you're the originator. However, if you're talking BL weight then build them one by one but then you probably get burned out by doing that rather quickly.
