link exchange systems - do the links count?

I recently started using travel related link exchange systems thinking I'd quickly get lots of links to ym site www.travel-plan-idea.com

However, only two (out of 200 or 200) have been counted by Google. Is there some inherent problem with link exchange systems?

When you run a URL popularity checker or link:www.domainname.com in google it will typically only show you sites that are linking to you with a PR 4 or better.

I would check to make sure that sites you are trading with are listed in google and have a PR.

But don't get fustrated keep trading links building back links and good ranking don't happen over night.

So link exchange systems are a good way to get lots of links? I guess I just picked the wrong ones because even when I search alltheweb I only show 5 links (none of them from the link exchanges)

I think backlinks only show for PR3 or more. right?

Right.

Actually, somewhere between PR3 and PR4. And even then, some might now show, but are still helpful.

Yahoo! shows more links than Google and Google shows more than Alltheweb. I still see only some of the links counting, but I guess the others will be found in time. With a PR 6 I shouldn't be complaining, but actually I know my outbound links are valuable (I put them on links pages attached to the index so they are PR 5 I think) so I don't want to give them to sites that aren't helping me.

Yeah I would like to know that also. I've tried out a few and most are crap. The most developed I've seen as far as on-site link exchange systems is Ask and Recieve.

I think arelis is supposed to be decent, but i have not used much automated link exchange / reciprocal directory type software.

I've used it and it's good, but not as great as hand picking sites to partner with. It's to automate the "finding" of potential link partners. If you then take that information and contact the site with personal emails and not the template emails in the program it can be a nice resource.

I think I'm using the term differently. I mean a system like this one: http://www.hoteldiscovery.net/linkexchange/index.php which (by the way) seems to ahve stopped working as I tried to sign up another site with these and it didn't work.

Anyway you make a page to their sites and the add you to your links directory (unless their script isn't working in which case you just waste a lot of time setting up links to their sites and then taking them down).

the problem with those pages is that if they are fully automated eventually one drug, porn, or casino site eventually stumbles across it.

then their competitors check backlinks.

and then they exploit it until there is no value in that it
gets blacklisted -or-
has too many submissions to where they parse a very small link popularity to any given site -or-
they piss off the site owner and he / she is forced to take it down.

Yeah I thought I could get a bunch of links quickly but those pages were more trouble than they were worth...
