***** Admin note: This thread broken from the Do it Yourself SEO thread. *****
Hi,
great post! And I agree with you. Doing SEO is not that great for other people, as you said. Profitable ideas, I can do myself to get all the cash, and if the ideas suck, why bother.

Too bad most of those directories charge about a 40.00 submission fee. Especially when I'd be submitting to a low PR category like English as a second language...

LOL. People do charge a ton of money for on-page SEO and for the most part, it's not worth it, IMHO.
Now, if they charge tens of thousands of dollars to build links to your site, that could be justifiable.

That's a good way to break down SEO efforts.

i think you can make a ton more money (longterm I am talking) building your reputation and then helping people vice helping a bunch of people before you build a reputation.
sure you can help others, but there are huge untapped markets on the web. if you chose to do something that interests you and make more than enough to get by then there is little reason to work for a ton of other people.
that is part of the reason why i do not work for too many people. too easy to get caught in a cycle of doing disinteresting stuff for the sake of greed.

I have lots of thoughts running through my mind about cool things i want to do.
I enjoy making ideas the propigate themselves vice doing seo on an idea that does not want to spread naturally. the problem is that i have so many ideas that i its hard for me to focus on doing one super cool thing really cool.
I am probably on the computer close to 100 hours a week, but I don't know how much of that I would call work

I think it's hard to be passionate about client sites. On my own sites, sure, I'll give 300%, but it's kind of hard to get passionate about promoting some generic ****** site....

and many times those who have the generic ****** site have no idea what is going on and have no interest in ****** even. if i am just working for money then i might as well be
1.) doing something that really interests me -or-
2.) making thousands a day off my own online casino or own pharmacy site

it should be noted that these suggestions alone do not mean you will be in the top 10 search results for your target keywords

It should be noted that there is nothing in the world you can do to guarantee top ten ranking, so it's pretty much a redundant comment.

Reading the tutorial the line:
<TITLE>Web Hosting - Rated #1 by Slanted Reviews.com</TITLE>
struck me as very interesting, the effect on the search engine is probably not as great as the effect it has on humans.
The top search engine is not Google, it is people.
Every single web page they visit their brain index it, the well established website has a user base, PR rating merely speeds up the process of a web site being established in the human brain if it is good.
Referral by word of mouth has greater ranking than a search engine referral.

we rewrite our memories and form new associations each time we remember them. it is hard to build a relational database of the bulk of the world's information anywhere near that dynamic, especially when that same database has heavy commercial exploitation well integrated into that system.
