Why are these two sites I despise ranking better than me?

I am number 60 for the keyword "ESL" - my site = www.eslgo.com has PR 6 and almost 10% keyword density.

www.marksesl.com/ is PR 5 and is basically a link farm with pop up ads but is #52 or so.

www.esl-lounge.com/ is also PR 6 but uses the word posters more often than the word ESL. And is #10.

Shouldn't esl-loung be banned for all those poster links? And shouldn't www.eslgo.com be ranking ahead of both of these sites?

It could, but I don't know waht it all means. I know backlinks, I know all in anchor, but inder "pages" I have:

those poster links are really ugly...YUCK.

PageRank alone or keyword density does not matter so much as anchor text and # of inbound links when optimizing for fairly competitive terms.

Search engine algorithms are designed to have optimial results in the top few pages. It probably does not give much of an accurate picture of how to improve your site by comparing your #60 to someone's #52.

It's called 'RageRank'.

Update: that marks esl site recently e-mailed wanting to exchange links. I told him to bugger off. After the recent Google update we've basically traded places: I'm 53 and he's 60 for ESL. Guess all that hatred paid off!

I came across this thread today and wondered if anyone was actually interested in doing something related to "RageRank" which i had a similar idea back this February and started a site RageRank.
I haven't done anything with it yet other than stick geeklog on it which i don't really like. Anyone interested let me know

I'm into experiements, perhaps increasing the ESL word count on pages that links the page you desire may help.

There is also the possible benefit of increasing the ESL word count on your entire website, if its not too much of a pain to do.

I expect the PR is the ranking of a page, not the PR of a specific word on a page.

I saw the top 5 for "ESL" had a lot of edu links, a quite competitive keyword.

I've still got plenty of rage. Actually I'm up to like #48 for ESL but the one bad guy is still top 10 and the other is up to 40!

I'll be beating at least the one at #40 soon. I should have time to work during my summer vacation...
