Needs a lil help and elaboration.....

Hi!

we are planning to create a new site for our products, and optimization wise, which is better:

productname.domainname.com/main-category/subcategory

or

domainname.productname.com/maincategory/subcategory


im confused which one to use, though i want the 2nd one....how about you guys? Which do you think is the best, and Why?

i would go with the 1st one....

main-category is better then maincategory from both seo and user perspective

for eg real-estate is better then using it as realestate

Either of the two will do as both will most likely contain the keyword (product name) you would optimize for. I don't think it would make a big difference placing it before or after your domain name

Domain is just one factor that will affect your rankings. The main focus should be at onpage optimization (keywords, meta, etc.) and building the links for the offpage optimization of your keywords

I made a lil observation on the results that google is displaying.
for example, you are looking for 'vitamins'

you will see that most results are showing this url format:

www.samplehealthsite/vitamins
www.samplehealthsite/vitamins/someinfohere
www.samplehealthsite/someinfohere/vitamins


i wonder if i will rank higher even if i use:

www.vitamins.myhealthsitedomain.com/infoaboutvitamins

I think first one is best. i.e
productname.domainname.com/main-category/subcategory

That format would enable you to submit your different categories to directories, for one thing.

I prefer the 1st one

but the keyword you using in your product is important
in on-page optimization and off-page optimization
