Most hosting packages include stats software. If you have cPanel login to it and look for the 'logs' section, if stats software is enabled you should see a link to it.

Yeah! Check your web stats from C panel of your website.
And we have one more effective tool which is free of cost from Google - G Analytics. Why don't you use it?

Yes please if you don't want to know the important stuff....
Noobs use free stuff
Pros or people that have a clue use pro software.
with Google Analytics How do you know how many failed forms you have, how do you get the real stats if your visitors come from corp or business networks that don't allow java (most don't allow unauthorized updates or software - hardly any allow java ), how do you tell the server errors, click fraud, hack attempts, and many many more important stats only the server logs will show, etc, etc.
Use Google Analytics and you're working blind.
FREE seems the be the optimal word tho - you get what you pay for.....
I also don't use el cheapo virtual sites with no static ip - like this one -http://209.44.115.202 (cut an paste into your browser an see what happens) opps that's neuronimbus.com

I tried google and it does not find the code on my website.
When you say we should pay for a good service, what kind of cost does that involve?

Service - no unless you have a host running webtrends enterprise (an el cheapo host will never have it).
Buy the software (if you buy software....lol) and download your log files via ftp.
Or you can ask your host where the log files are and have the software download them and analyze them at the same time.
here's an example report (they are not a client of mine) - http://www.netzonefl.com/1/default.htm
I use both webtrends and surfstats because they both provide info that the other doesn't.

Check the code, something might be missing or its improperly placed on your site that causes the error...

If traffic is all you want to monitor, you don't have to spend a single dime...
Free tools like G Analytics or Statcounter will do...
Think about it...

Google Analytics and Statcounter can help on tracking your visitors. By using this tool, you will know where the visitors came from. (what site, country, IP address)

Do what you want. You asked for advice, I'm a pro, I get big bucks to give advice.
No good deed goes unpunished....
Knowledge is power - you have more knowledge that the freeby guys - you win.
Thats what online marketing is about - getting every small advantages over the competition you can....
Let um use the freebies - If you want real info what's going on in your site pay for a good stat program...

Do you have statcounter or Google analytics in your site? you can see your site's traffic and where it came from.

Mit,
I know it went over your head but the freebies miss alot because most corp and business networks don't allow Java. Guess what that code is you add to the page......
Or maybe you just want to know where "some" of your traffic comes from.......
What if that traffic is just downloading files or video directly and not going thru a page ,
what if the traffic is .... never mind you won't get it
