Google Sandbox
I've been doing lots of reading here on this forum, slowly learning my way about SEO. Recently came across several posts comparing search terms on google with search terms that are getting around some sort of filter. I guess my question is this: What does it mean?
When I search for my site is ranked somewhere in the top 200, ( see here) but if I search for

|
my site is ranked #1 ( see here).
Likewise with my photography forum. When I search for my site is ranking in the 150-175 range ( see here), but when I search for

photography corner -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf
|
( see here), I'm ranked #6.
What does this mean?

removes some sort of filter... just random text... a SEO expert could probably answer it better...

It is to do with the Google 'Sandbox' theory where new sites and their links are held in a type of quarantine before receiving the rankings they deserve.

I thought there was more to it than that, theres nothing I've seen to say its only new sites which the filter effects.

Did a search without the random jargon for "signs of pregnancy" and I'm number 2 for those keywords. With the random jargon, number 1. Question is: What should I change to get to number 1?
I'm glad this was brought up again as it has been a valuable resource for me. Just saved it on my toolbar Thanks, JS!

Yeah, goldust, that was the original discussion I was referring too... I was just wondering if there's more insight to be shared as to why this is the case, and to further starca's question, what can we do to make those rankings a reality.

the -bladlasdfjdsafksajdfasdf just activates an advanced search feature. since advanced search takes much longer than a simple search there is not as much time to go through all the same calculations and whatnot, thus it likely uses an older or different algorithm for the -dadfasdfdsafsad searches.
the solution to raising your rankings is almost always get more links and create more content...and when possible it is good to eat bouncy cheeseburgers.
I am off to McDonalds

So it really doesn't mean anything, then? Or would it indicate that certain filters are being applied that will be lifted at some point?

Filter - google - asdfasdfasdf -asdfasdfasdf
This morning I ran the the jargon through google for one of my search terms Dance Music Directory & DJ forum with the jargon applied in the google search and, this was showing up 1st - but without the jargon it was showing up 2nd
about 20 mins ago, I just had a did a search and noticed I was 1st place for the search term mentioned above... I'm not going to place much confidence in this method to find future serp rankings, I have added extra content and a few extra backlinks I'm sure that must of helped a great deal..
maybe Compar or John Scott can throw open some thoughts on this..

Yeah, I'm not expecting something drastic, just curious why that would be... obviously I'm working on getting more links and content... just curious what this means...

Yeah... I'm just curious as to what exactly I'm doing when I manipulate the search that way...

what it means is that they have separate algorithms (or a filter)
generally filters occur because of a problem. they do not generally lift filters. filters are either a temporary or perminant part of the algorithm. if and when they find a better way to combat the problem then the filter would be lifted, but the algorithm will be changed using whatever new technique they use.
it is just an issue of problem solving to provide the best relevancy
