Need on-page SEO advice
I am redesigning my website, currently I use PPC and some other methods for traffic. I want to redesign it with SEO in mind. Can anyone reccomend any good articles, books, guides, or websites that could get me started? Im looking for more of a guide on SEO design from the ground up.
Im talking about things like, where the sidebar should be located in the html, how to properly structure html for SEO, sitemap tips, stuff like that.
Thanks in advance

Definitely read the Google webmaster guidelines. You should also read over my SEO Guide on Squidoo. I am linking to it in my signature.

This is a must
Also check with other SE's - Yahoo, MSN, etc. as they have different algo in determining your rankings for keyword searches.

Nellis,
Don't know your product or service - here's the best advice I can give a noob.
Study your competition -
what did they do?
What is their site structure?
What do they offer?
What can you offer they don't?
Who do they target?
Who should they target?
There's some tricks, but mostly it's just figuring out what people are looking for and providing it.
Content will win out over tricks.
It may be that your product is more suited for MSN (done your homework on demographics?) MSN likes mom pop sites (black hatters are penalized severely)
No java unless you provide an alternative, flash only if it serves a purpose (looking good is not a purpose....lol), basic headers, archor links, alt text, decribe what you have on the site.
Spiders are dumb, you have to tell them what's on the pages and make sure it's there.
Never use an image if text will do.........
make the pages fast loading - I'd rather be # 10 with a fast loading page than the other 9 with bloated pages.
entice people to take an action
never force a path on them
study your stats - they will tell you what people want and how to convert them.
5 people buying is worth a million just browsing.
you don't have to take on the world or grab all the traffic (just your share).
You only have to beat 10 sites - 5 of them are done by someone like you
there raise your right hand - you're an expert
