What gave you the idea that bounce rate is a SERP rank factor?

To the contrary, many are likely have very high bounce rates, as the landing pages are frequently gateways linking to 3rd party sites.

Just one more example of why a high bounce rate is not necessarily bad.

My bounce rate sucks, averaging about 70% across many of my sites, some of the good ones are about 50%. Some of the worst ones are over 90%.

I think it also has something to do with the landing page layout and links.

Mine is up to 70% from 1 week ago but i had hosting isssues for 1 week then changed to a new host that added another day of issue's. Bounce rate kept on rising. Now i'm going to work on getting it back down. (Still figuring this one out. lol)

I completely agree with Brad here. It depends on your site and what you are trying to achieve with it.

For example if your site sells only one single product, a high bounce rate wouldn't mean its bad. It could actually mean, your site is build really user freindly and the user was able to buy the products quickly and easily and move on.

Now about the whole number thing, I think most people would agree that a bounce rate of around %60- %70 is normal and doesn't mean your site is bad. Most sites, even big sites have avarice bounce rates.

Has any one tried installing a video on their home page, I have tried installing a video in the past, and i think that can help reduce your bounce rate

As earlier noted, while a video may increase the dwell time, aka time-on-page, it will not necessarily change bounce rate.

In fact, it may very well increase bounce rates!

I've few sites where bounce rate is ~50% and few where its as low as 30% and I am perfectly happy as it's as per my expectation. What is important, that visitors should get what they seek. If the pages are informational it perfectly makes sense that visitors find the ifnromation where they land this landing page is very important. Now like good selling websites, one needs them visit more and more and convert them into customers this you need to target page such a way that bounce rate is low i.e. they simply don't go away after landing on your page.

Not quite so simple.

If, for example, the landing page contains a call to action that leads to a 3rd party shopping cart, then a low bounce rate indicates that visitors are not doing what you want them to do!

I have 43% bounce rate, where I started my seo campaign I had 70+ but now it's ok what I think as per some seo expert's view.
Bounce rate high means you don't have in your pages, exactly what they are looking for.

To the contrary, if your landing page has exactly what they're looking for, you should expect ahigh bounce rate, as they've no need for continuing further on your site.

Please read this thread to learn that there is no such thing as an optimal bounce rate; and that a high bounce rate may actually be a sign of success.

Talking

My current bounce rate is 72.6%, from what I have been reading in this thread, a high bounce rate could actually be a good thing. However, truly I am not too concerned about it. My main importance is building my site and making sure that it is functional.

Much Thanks,

BiologyWebmaster

I honestly don't know what my bounce rate is.

I don't pay attention to it. Really doesn't mean anything to me.

Depending on what your goal(s) is(are), that may or may not be too high.

Your bounce rate will be not necessary be decreased by improving the quality of posts on your landing page; in fact, it may have the opposite effect.

If the posts themselves sufficiently satisfy the needs of your visitors, such that there is no cause for them to venture elsewhere into your site, then a high bounce rate is to be expected.

If you want them to go deeper, the landing page has to give them a clear and compelling reason to do so.
