How does E-book help in link building? It's more taboo in the webmaster community, most are useless.

Ebooks....make people recognize you (and your site) if they get a hold of a copy?
Lol I don't get it either. Most of the time, people rarely pay attention to who made the ebook. Also, ebooks, IMO, are pretty much useless unless people are actually and truly interested in reading more into the articles that you post on your site.
I mean, if what they want is already there, why bother getting (or buying) an ebook?

Nice one...you enumerated it all, but I guess it would be a lot more helpful if you give at least a simple description of each...

Exactly. There are tons of e-book out there that talks about the same thing. What makes you think by writing an e-book makes you more credible then others? Unless you are established and got something to prove, e-book doesn't seem to be a good way to promote yourself.
It might just do the opposite in rep and nothing to do with SEO what so ever.

Very true. People will tend to flock to your site if you have good content.
Then again, if your site's design will make their eyes bleed, they'll probably look somewhere else. It's all about balancing everything within your site.
