I noticed you mentioned prices - have you ever checked out the ServerBeach prices? They got some good ones.

Allow me to return the warm welcome that you extended to me on your forum! We pride ourselves on being one of the friendlier forums available.

To provide relevancy on that comment earlier, I am the moderator for the marketing forum here. I am also in the middle of writing a detailed series of articles about online marketing. Most of my posts include elements on marketing, so it would be to my benefit in your contest if there was a marketing forum. With that said, it would probably be fairer to your existing user base to not introduce a marketing forum until after the contest ends, simply because the existing user base was attracted to your forum for other reasons. On the chance that I do win one of the contest prizes for a post made in a marketing forum, some of your existing user base may feel slighted because I'm new, I made a post in a forum that was created because of a comment by me, and my post was on a subject that is my strong point.

I commented on a referral contest at http://www.internet-marketing-resear...opic.php?t=316 in this forum. You might want to take a look at it.

ServerBeach's founder is the founder of RackSpace? Quite convincing...

And while contests are the way to get only temporary visitors, you have to have a ground to build on. It helps future visitors see that there's more to the forum than a bunch of zero post forums. Also, we have forums set up to buy/sell, so if someone is buying/selling, they're going to want to check back to see what kind of response they're getting. With competition as fierce as WebHostingTalk (and several others), you need to offer some sort of incentive to at least attract the market, and if in the beginning it costs, that's a price I'm willing to pay.

And thanks for the welcome

RackSpace owns ServerBeach. Both are very good, reputable companies. RackSpace just costs a lot more.

Ouch. *wince* That timeout is harsh. I wrote a semi-long article on turnkey and co-branded added value services role in web hosting, and lost the whole thing after it sent me to a login screen when I tried to preview it.

I normally do. I'm not sure why I didn't this time. I got back from explaining to one of my co-workers why a 2 meg file won't fit on a floppy disk, and decided to preview the article before continuing it. *sigh* I'll re-write it later, probably from home.

Well, that was the simplified version. The problem was that Windows NT was giving an error message saying the file or directory was corrupted when she tried to save the file. Did a quick five minutes of testing, and realized what the problem was. Then I had to explain it to her.

Another example of how NT is not user friendly. On the plus side, last Friday the hospital made an insane crazy offer to us that we are going to capitalize on before they realize it. They offered to upgrade all of our NT machines to 2000 under their licensing structure, for free. The rep that was talking to me about this did not realize that we personally own the machines, and when I pointed this out he insisted on following through with his offer. As soon as we can get the doctors to backup their data, we'll be upgrading! *whoot*
