Very nice prizes but they could be quite hard to win

Well, for now it looks quit easy as no one seems interested... so I recommend you register and try to win one of those prizes.

Instead of giving away prizes to motivate people, why not post some high quality articles, and get some good discussions going?

Well, I've just posted something I think will be controversial. I found a couple of posts that say that they love EV1Servers, so I posted a fairly long article giving my reasons for viewing EV1Servers as the scum of the earth. *giggle* Wonder what'll happen with it.

Interesting.... hurm. Obviously Jazzee viewed the article, but it only says that there was 1 view. *blink* Does it only track member views?

*giggle* I'm actually aiming for the second or third place prize. The first place prize doesn't interest me as much as second or third.

It seems to be counting only member views.

Well, I don't think the actual view count is considered in the contest. However, it just struck me as odd. I like to know how many people I've been exposed to.

True true.
I'm actually giving serious thought to posting a rough draft of my article on why contests are the wrong vehicle to increase the member base. It will essentially state that people will only post to win the contest, and when it's over then the majority will cease to frequent the site.
Do you think that would disqualify me from the contest, or cause them to end the contest? *ponder*

It would not cause them to end the contest. You might be disqualified from the contest depending on the maturity level of the admins there.

Actually, I just got a reply from Steve on the EV1 post. It was an excellent reply, agreeing with some of my points, and offering his opposing view on others. Now, if only they had a marketing forum..... *giggle*

Hey Bubo, this is Steve from HostingPost. I'm the owner, and I hired Dave to help promote the forums, so he developed this contest. He gave me a link to all the forums at which he posted the announcement, so I figured I would check up on them.
To answer your question on if such a thread would be disqualified, if it were up to me, it would not. Disagreement doesn't mean disqualification. Dis, dis, dis.
And as for your marketing forum idea... interesting. I'll talk it over with some of the other admins, and see what they think about it

I've also had issues with EV1Servers (actually, RackShack when these occurred). One would be the time they banned my home IP address from accessing any website on their network. I couldn't get to so many websites, it was actually quite an experience. I had to remotely control Matt's computer (the other admin here) to tell them "Hey... let me back!". It took a long time of convincing, I even had to somehow figure out how to get a screenshot of typing "netstat -A" into my DOS prompt on my Windows desktop. Finally, they lifted the ban, and I was allowed access once again.
That's just one report. Prior to that, for no reason, and no warning, they unplugged my server for "Abuse". I went into their support chat to find out why this was the case, and they couldn't provide me an answer other than to email abuse@rackshack.net (which is understandable). So I email the address, and explain my situation. About a day or so later I get a response saying basically "That was an accident, you've now been plugged back in." Not even an apology. Keep in mind, this server had over 60 websites on it, all who experienced an incredibly long amount of downtime.

Ouch! And you stay there?

Yeah, that's all water under the bridge, being that it occurred roughly in March/April-ish.
Sure, it's a lot of water, but it all drained quite nicely
