Exchanging links - SEO mistake

I like to have some serious comments on this topic.

My opinion - No, its not. It is still a useful and easy method for getting relevant sites links to yours, we just need to check the quality and relevancy.

Relevant exchanges are still good IMO as long as it's not a link farm.

It would be a mistake if you play it wrong. Excessive and irrelevant link trades wouldn't be good of course...

Exchanging links is good in our site. But we need to do this in a regular way not just by excessive link exchange.

Yes, I wouldn't call it a mistake at all. If it's a useful link for your customers and the other site's customers too, then it's a good idea.

Google's Webmaster Guidelines when it comes to Link Schemes

Don't

* Links intended to manipulate PageRank
* Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
* Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging
* Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

As long as your following those guidelines your on the right track.

From a blog and I don't want to make any issue, that's his place, he is free to write anything in his website/blog but just to correct him that LE is just not SEO mistake.

When doing link exchanging you should to be sure that the other site is first revelent, second - is not doing anything the wrong way cause you may get affected and penalized for having "bad neighbor". Otherwise, it helps, both for you and him.

It depend how they perform the action. If they do it excessively and not related to the site being exchange it is a mistake. But if you do it right just like link exchange to the related site and has a good content it is helpful. We know that every SEO technique when done not properly or being abused became wrong.

what does matter is linking those relevant and related sites only.if you link to those sites which is not related to yours and if you are not aware that there will be sites that are being penalized by google.You might loose reputation and this might harm your site too.

It is hard to get good quality links when your site is new,but as it grows old,you can get quality good links.

if you're not paying for them...go for it, but in most cases there are easier ways to get links than begging.

4. Once they've approved the exchange, your link is auto-uploaded to their site, and their link is auto-uploaded to your site.

Link Exchange is important,but if your doing link exchange make sure that site your choice is relevant to your site..

I think he is talking about excessive link exchange. link exchange is still a good way of gaining backlinks.
