My position is Google dramatically increased
My position is Google dramatically increased (in March) but I did no optimizations recently.
Now I am on the first 10 positions for several popular keywords. Many of these keywords return over 2-3 million results and I am on top ten.
My PR is the same (I still don't get it: the PR of a web site is the PR of the index page or what?).
Maybe it is related to the new PhpBB v3 forum that I installed (but I don't have more than 2 posts per day)?
What should I do to increase the traffic even more?
I don't know big deal about SEO and my keywords are just words that popped-up in my head, keywords related to my site/software.
If I would know what cause the increase than I can optimize the site in that direction.
--------
Edit: My PR (index page) is 4. Is it much or less?

i wouldn't think it has anything to do with your phpbb board. maybe lots of people linked to your site for some reason. you should check your backlinks using yahoo! site explorer or something similar.

Great news there, just keep continue doing what you were already doing, and don't forget to optimize your content. You should make it attractive for visitors, it means human friendly, and also make it attractive in the same time for the search engines, while still keeping it human friendly. That's the trick there. Having well optimized content will push you even more if you are done with the backlinks, cause when you are popular, backlinking come on their own, but content it's something you do.
However, there are many versions on how to write good content.

I don't know how many back links I have...
I am waiting for Yahoo to validate my sites to see this.
Thanks for pointing me to Yahoo site explorer. It seems a good tool.

Google changed something. My site is #1 on 2 different search words now and it was 15 -20th. (yes, my visits and page viewed numbers blew up)
The only thing I notice is Google is looking much more at "organic" words than key words. Why do I say that? My top search words are not in my key words. It's like they are ignoring key words.

Congratulations! My site is currently ranked top 10 for a couple keywords, but it's still a new site.

To check your backlinks you can also use google webmaster tools apart from the tool mentioned above, however I would like to add something more about the content. The future of the search engines is in the semantic web, which is going to be the very base of the web 3.0 standards. Google has already using semantic techniques to determinate the ranking positions and to increase revelancy. However, google can't do everything on their own, so our sites should be latent semantic "friendly". Therefor, we should consider optimizing our content based on the semantic models, a.k.a latent semantic optimization. It consist on how the humans would look at the context, so the search engines are trying to do the same.

Can anybody help me to interpret the data that I am getting from Google Analytics?
2.09 Pages/Visit
57.25% Bounce Rate
00:00:59 Avg. Time on Site
43.38% % New Visits
Direct Traffic 14,070 (69.31%)
Referring Sites 3,802 (18.73%)
Search Engines 2,427 (11.96%)
Do those numbers mean something?
Are there numbers much out of range or are they normal?
Thanks.

57.25% Bounce Rate <----- the percentage of people who look at your front page and leave.
00:00:59 Avg. Time on Site <--- the average time people stay on your site
43.38% % New Visits <--- percent of people who have never visited your site.
Direct Traffic 14,070 (69.31%) <---- number of people who have you saved as fav.
Referring Sites 3,802 (18.73%) <---- number of people who went to your site via another site
Search Engines 2,427 (11.96%) <---- how many people went to your site when they found you on a search engine

It all depends on what's on your site. As an advertiser, I wouldn't place an ad on your site because your number means you can't keep people once they get on your site. Not many people like your front page. (over half who go there) new visitors, it depends on the site.

search your key words and see where your site comes up. Google has changed things and sites are getting different rankings. This seem to have happen in the last week.

My PR is the same (I still don't get it: the PR of a web site is the PR of the index page or what?).
|
PR is the Page Rank of any website which can been seen after installing Google toolbar.
However Page Rank [1-10] has no relationship with actual rankings of any website. It is best to concentrate on increasing natural rankings rather than worrying about PR.
It is good that your website has picked up rankings on its own. It could be due to the fact that you are adding some nice and good content on your website.
Search engines give higher rankings to those websites which update their website with useful and relevant text.

My regular pages have an PR of 0-3 while may index page has a PR of 4.
For almost all keywords the page that appears in Google is the index (the one with PR4).

I never ever worked to convince others to put links back to my site.
I will never go to hunt invisible stuffs like back links. Instead, with that energy, I prefer to improve my software.
Thanks for advice. You are right
I think that Google finally is works as it supposed to work: instead of fake pages inflated with ‘words’ it started to put on the front pages that contains real information that was not optimized for Google but for real people. I hope that era of websites stuffed with 'forex' keywords and ads is over.
I was getting tired of people copying text from internet and pasting it in their blog JUST for Google.

My site is a hobby. I had no clue what a " PR" was until I came here. To be honest, I don't care what my PR is. I didn't even have a "sitemap" until I made one a few days ago because like I said it was a hobby. I used it to experiment with new programs and ideas.
The few thing I have notice since google changed my placement on the search word was:
all of the sites in the top 10 are over 3 years old.
They all have the search word on there page as the title.
I did notice mine and another site do upgrade the hit page the most, so maybe that's why we fight over the #1 spot. ( I did notice my spot changes daily)
1 of the top 10 were made professionally. The rest are thrown together.
Only 2 of the sites even have "meta" tags on them.
most of the site do a "banner swap" type of thing but only a few banners on each site.
The page google links to on my site is a vbulletin page. Not the welcome page. Same with the other site. Not their welcome, the page that has the search word.
