Does anyone sees too much fluctuation is Google SERPS

I see a lot of them...once #12 next day #18 and next day way back to #30!

Has anyone also these kinds of fluctuations?

Yes, I have experienced incremental drops in ranking the past week or so. It's frustrating. I wonder though if it's because the sites that jumped ahead are doing better SEO work or if it's just google. Especially when you haven't been doing anything that warrants a penalty, I don't understand how I'm dropping when I'm consistently doing good work to keep or raise my rank. Anyone have any insight on this matter?

I've seen the same types of fluctuations and considerable differences between datacenters. I'm still in the baselining phase so I really can't tell you whether or not this is the norm for my sites.

What I have noticed is that rather than google doing big updates like in the past, it's all more fluid now where rankings are constantly changing from day to day.

Google will also intuitively change the results so if you search for one thing and don't click on anything and search again it will bring different results.

Getting a true estimate of where you currently rank seems harder than ever before.

Yes, I do too. It's really hard to determine the rank since keywords are fluctuating. I just keep doing what I normally do

I see a lot of fluctuation as well, especially for sites with a majority of younger backlinks.

I've noticed these fluctuations as well. I have a client who emails me every time his position slips a bit. (Such fun hearing from him! lol) A day or two later he's right back where is was.

I'm not sure why this is happening. He generally sits about position 15-20 for his keywords but the fluctuation has seen him slip as far as postion 50-80.

Strange...

Older sites don't fluctuate as much. I find that for the first year or two of a sites existence, and as you start on your SEO tasks, it takes a little while for your rankings to stabilize. But over time, they start to get pretty cemented in place. Especially for your #1 rankings, as long as you keep at your work, they stay in place.

Newer sites however, dance all around the place. First they are first page, then eighth page, then third, and you're never sure day by day. But over time a pattern starts to emerge and you'll see where more or less you'll end up.
