How can RSS Feeds improve your SEO?

I was just reading this article about how RSS feeds can help improves your search engine position. Supposedly, RSS fees add fresh new content to your website that is constantly being updated which Google likes. Is this true or simply just a myth?

That is true. If your subscribers make your feed public lot of people can also see that; its free marketing.
As per SEO they bring in deep links, which is good for your site.

Yes, to make a relevant RSS is very beneficial for site visitors as well as for crawlers. The term relevant RSS refers to the usability and integrity of syndicated content according to the site theme.

You could find more deep links and get traffic to your website.

RSS feeds do not make a duplication issue if the content within those feeds is being used anywhere else except on the site where the content came from. For instance, if you write an article about tools and you see your content being ripped from your site and word for word is posted on another site due to a splogger or scraper, you will not get penalized as your site had the content published first.

I'm not sure if RSS can help you all that much in terms of SEO. RSS is not what helps, its the content within the parsed XML file which is what the search engines are looking for.

I'm sorry if I didn't make this thread clear. What I really meant to ask was whether adding "somebody else's" RSS fees on your web page improved your SEO. Such as RSS fees from the Google Blog Search. I apologize for the confusion.

(I don't know) but for me, no it's not helping. When I do searches on old topic from feeds nothing about my site appears. When I do (niche) News. Then I get good search results.

I could have the setup wrong on my site. That's why it's not helping.

Generally, I would consider this a bad practice, especially if the page that those feeds are displaying on has ads because thats like making money off of someone else's work. In terms of SEO, I think because the links or content in what would be a widget on your blog showcasing RSS links to other blogs wouldn't be constant and instead would be continuously changing, I don't see how it would help you in terms of SEO.

Nope. Then you would be promoting somebody else's site in every way.

RSS feed is good whenever you produce a fresh content which means creating a topic in your content that has not yet been posted or what we call unique but posting somebody else topic is not that bad at all if your intention is to give information but the disadvantage is the original owner of the site will benefit from it!

Having your feed picked-up by other sites rather than posting their feed is what will give you a seo advantage. Quality content that is updated frequently will help in this regard.

RSS is just a service that you can offer to your visitors to help them keep up to date with your latest content. The trick is providing awesome content that makes your visitors want to subscribe.

RSS offers a way for them to publish their information on many web sites, which in turns increases their reach on the Internet and the amount of traffic they receive to their web site. They also receive more one way links back to their web site. These benefits result in an increase in their search engine ranking.

I think you've got it backwards. Having your own RSS feed is the key. Then if you add it to sites like technorati and faves.com, then automatically display your content if you ping them using a blog. Danogo gets referral traffic this way but I do not think G counts them in PR.
