ASP.NET vs HTML for better SEO

Hello,

My current site is pure HTML. I am planning to move it to aspx file extensions instead of HTML so I can use include file/master page feature so my banner, left menus, footer, etc are in one place and I include them on all pages. All include files are purely HTML just the file names will be aspx.

Will this affect SEO ranking in any way.

Can you suggest any other SEO friendly way to structure the site so that the common sections (banner, footer, left menus, etc) are coded in one place for ease of maintenance.

Thanks.

If your site is on SE for a long time and your not satisfied with it's current rankings then do those changes you want but it will surely affect your rankings but if your confident that it is better to have an aspx than html then do it! Your ranking will depend on the content or the on-page optimization technique and the off-page too!

Code replication on all pages

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

By repeatable code, I meant the HTML code to display the banner, create left menu items, footer.

Instead of replicating the same code on all pages, I was wondering if I can write these just once and then include the banner.html, footer.html, leftmenu.html on all the pages of the site.

However the only way I know this would be possible is to use file includes in ASPX or some other kind of Server Side Includes.

If I need to change the left menus in the future, I could just make the chnage in the leftmenus.html file and that could be automatically reflected on all pages since the leftmenu.html file will be include on all pages.

Any suggestions ?

Ok, I don't know much about it but I think it's fine even if you change it to ASPX there will be no problem, because your rankings in SE's depends on your content and how you will promote it to the public!

If ever you gonna change from html to aspx, if you encounter 404 error, redirect it to your new page ASAP.

You can include your header. footer...etc on different pages defining them as user control which have the .ascx extension not .html.

As you change those pages to .aspx from .html they will loose rankings, since a.aspx and a.html are considered two separate files.

I would advise you to try CSS.

I don't know but it is not confirmed that search engine do not link.asp pages.

Indeed, changing them with will definitely affect the rankings of your site, and like what I've been telling you, if you think your site will do better than the previous rankings when you had .html and changed it to .ASPX then do it!
