Cool Html or xhtml for new web design? I am confused

I have google to find out which is better for SEO purposes between xhtml and html.

I become confused after visiting a few SEO forums.

I am asking a web designer to redesign my website but he said he will do it in xhtml and he will validate it.

In one forum, it says xhtml rules are complicated. For example, if there is an extra "/" in the metatags, then the website is no longer xhtml.

I am confused what to choose html or xhtml esp for SEO and ranking purposes.

thanks

you can use the basic html and rank like the xhtml one. no need to make your site complicated, usually CMS types of sites need to be xhtml or xmls. it doesn't matter. as long as your site age, have a good web presence and with great original content you wont have problems ranking in the top pages

Where ever you read that (or possibly you misread it) is incorrect. XHTML is not complicated. It just takes a bit of retraining some old habits (and adjusting your HTML editor if you are relying on it to produce coding).

HTML is the coding language used to produce web pages. HTML 4.01 was the last version of the HTML standard produced. HTML 5.0 is being worked on.

XHTML is also a coding language used to produce web pages. It is very similar to HTML in it's basic form.

HTML 4.01 forms part of XHTML.

There are differences between HTML and XHTML, one of them being that some tags (the meta tag for example) require a / at the end of the tag when coding in XHTML.

I sure hope xhtml 2.0 wins. html 5 looks like a backwards standard..

Either way, if it validates, then it should be fine. If you're concerned about the end product being SEF, I'm sure there are plenty of people here who wouldn't mind wandering through the site to make sure everything is okay in that respect.

Both HTML and XHTML can be used to create SEF sites. I would lean more to XHTML, however...

They cannot be that different when talking about the rankings of websites. They still are both preferred over the dynamically created sites.

~DaRk-EyE~ is on the right path~DaRk-EyE~ is on the right path
There is really no difference in using either html and xhtml when it comes to SEO since both of them are easy to crawl and SE friendly...
But usability wise(not SEO) I'll go for XHTML for some reasons...

1). XHTML is easier to maintain
2). XHTML is XSL ready
3.) XHTML is ready for the future
