Link Exchange Criteria

What criteria do you use when determining when to exchange links with another site?

While linking with other site i use the following criteria

1 - Find the relevant site
2 - Check whether the site is banned in google.
3 - Update there Link information in our site if the link information is given on there site.
4 - Shoot email to webmaster requesting linkexchange with them.

This is not a rocket science.

Not steps, criteria.

Do you, for example, link to spammy sites? I'm guessing that even you have standards.

It should be related site
Link page that been crawled and indexed by SE's
Don't place our link more than 2 simple clicks away from your Index.
make sure that your link page DOESN'T contain NOINDEX and NOFOLLOW tags
We don't want to link with more than 30 links..

I would exchange links to relevant site only and with pr and has a good backlinks.

Here's my criteria:
- Relevant and quality(not banned, updated, doesn't look spammy) sites...
- I prefer A-B-C Link trading...
- The position of my link on their site should be at least visible for visitors. (Not burried into domain.com/links_30.html)
- The page where my link will be placed should be indexed in Google.
- Sitewide links should be evaluated and checked first so it won't look like a paid link...
- Has a quite traffic and PR (Not necessarily a requirement)...

The main criteria for me is that it must a relevant site as others say and also having a high PR.,

The main Idea for enchange (for me) is
- The same subject
- The PR
- Traffic
I think only 3 factor is enough (for me)

For me, im taking into consideration two factors: 1) the relativeness of the site im link exchange with; 2) the high or low risk of being competitors with that website.

Check their affiliate sites
Check if it's indexed on major SEs (GYM)
Number of IBLs (GYM)

I exchange links with:
- Related sites
- Higher Pr sites
- I do not put more then 30 links in a reciprocal link exchange page.
