Benefits of tag clouds?
Seeking advise from webmasters here, I heard that tag cloud can improve our site ranking. is it true? how to do? can i create tag cloud in my PHP website? Will google allow it?

Tag Clouds is created for usability purposes but it is also a powerful weapon for search engine optimization. That's because tagging allows you to organize your internal hierarchical linking structure, flowing the link juice more strategically throughout your site. And because those link tags are textual and keyword-rich, a tag cloud is more advantageous to use in terms of SEO against traditional navigation bar.

Also, what should the cloud limit be? Right now I don't have one, and the cloud is getting a bit lengthy!

No, just having a tag cloud won't improve rankings but it helps getting other pages indexed/noticed.

i agree! it also makes your site a user friendly site for the visitors because he/she can jump from a page to another page (within your site) he/she is interested with...

Tag Clouds are crawled by SE's and since they are textual and keyword-rich it does give some weight to the keywords you are tagging...

So... Since they can be are "crawled" by spider... there is a high chance that you will rank in the tags/keywords in tag clouds, right???

Tag cloud is great way to index more pages for large websites. If you have search box on your site you can create tag cloud. Google will crawl your search results, index pages with search results, discover pages which was unreachable before.
But this strategy works only for websites with 1000 or more pages.

that's the disadvantage of the tag cloud, it'll make your page looks messy...

Yes there is a chance that you'll rank with those keywords on your tag clouds especially if you've been building quality links with those keywords as anchor text...
Tag clouds is a contributing factor...
Using tag clouds alone won't get the job done but if combined with other SEO factors it can be an asset...

Internal linking is important in SEO. Tags clouds does the internal linking to deep pages. So for SEO I think it would help. Its not all though, there are many other factors you should look into.

there are some benefits with using tag clouds like, it deep links your site, it creates your own internal link navigation area, it emphasizes KWs in your anchor texts..thus, it can create great results

I think Dark Eye explain it very well..that is why many are using tag clouds to be easily crawled by spider web.

That one of the disadvantage of using Tag Cloud., but if you will make it in proper order and it will look good., but I must agree its help a site to be crawled.,
