Two things that I can assure you will never happen

1. You will never talk to God (even on the phone)
2. SEO Company will ever put your site in #1 place or even page for highly comparative topics.

The only help you’ll get if SEO used to make sense with your site content but not in any way, form and shape to fool Google or any others SE.

yeah and slow, time consuming and it would actually cost more money short, mid and long term if you are doing SEO and not focusing on your strengths. if the guy is not SEO then he would have to learn it all. If i need a house built i call a builder and if my pipes burst i call a plumber. I dont attempt it myself.

I would say - go the "asian way" - good guys, they know what they are doin and they are mostly cheap. some have "communication issues" ( not ALL ) but there deliver the goods - scriptlance is a good place to start

You can do alot of off page seo yourself number one being link building.You would need deep pockets to pay someone to do link building for you.

I got a perm seo that i pay $150 a month. loads of cheap services out there

I have to add the thread was started by a link baiter anyhow that happens to be banned now

well all i can suggest to you is that dont focus on searching for an seo company it would only charge you with a large amount all i am saying is that why hire a company were you can get a free lance seo same quality lesser cost.

Google would perhaps be the first place where you should start your search. You should look for a company in your city if possible with whom you can interact or even meet is necessary. Before making a decision of course ask for sites that they have optimized in the past and how well they fared in them.
