I took a look at your site. My advice is to get a few more sites and/or graphics in your portfolio before attempting blind solicitations. Some sources for work would be charity organizations, churches, or small local stores in your area that you can approach in person. Offer free or inexpensive sites/graphics to them, and do the best job that you can on the sites/graphics. This will provide a solid portfolio for prospective customers to review.
Also, you should look a little bit into copywriting. If you like, I can provide some good reviews on writing effective copy for sales, or you can follow the tutorial link in the tutorial forum. Most paying sites will be attempting to sell something or other, either a product or service for money, or to convert a visitor into a loyal member. Even if you decide to just do graphic work, the copywriting that you use in your advertisement will demonstrate to prospective customers that you understand the basics of audience appeal, and will be using the same concepts in creating the graphics that they order. Copywriting is critical in those aspects of site design, and the first example that potential customers will be exposed to is your advertisement for your services.
