Finding competitors inbound links?
I know of the code ... link:www.yourdomain.com can be used to find other websites inbound links, but Ive found the results arent great. Websites which would really have thousands of inbound links only show a few in the search results. What other methods can be used?

try to get their backlinks on alltheweb as it generally shows more backlinks than google does

alltheweb actually appears to be worse than google ... are there any tools you can use that give more accurate results?

The trouble is, Google indexes far more pages than any other SE I know of - so even checking ATW can be very out of date. There's a client I've got top rankings for in Google with thousands of backlinks - but even ATW only counts 100 or so.

Where generic anchor text is used on lots of low PR pages, it becomes very difficult to track down the actual source pages of these links.

At the end of the day, link: and such can only serve as guides, not Gospels.

yeah i'd like to know of a reliable source too.. i've been using the one over at wwwhelpers.com, it seems to leave out a bunch of links too...

teoma does its link work after the search so
yahoo and google are the primary sources of linking info. sad there aren't more choices

Yahoo will show backlinks too now. I think you can use the same command as google in yahoo. They seem to show a lot more links in Yahoo.

Yahoo doesn't index so deeply though - particularly with dynamic pages.

link:yourdomain.com also does it in Yahoo and it does show much more backlinks than Google. (just looked and it showed 948 backlinks for a domain that shows only 47 in Google.)

as previously discussed in many locations the @www.domain.com does show many backlinks, but it misses some and also shows generic page citation from ads networks and many other sites that do not show up as backlinks
