Alexa traffic ranking problem

Hello!

I have just installed Alexa toolbar and I have a problem.

The traffic ranking of www.graffiti-online.org (my French online magazine) is 100. It would be great if it wasn't tripod's rank.

Graffiti online used to be on tripod, but I moved it to its own paying hosting at the begining of July, almost 4 months ago.

Why does Alexa still think it's on tripod?

On Alexa website, I do enter the full www.graffiti-online.org url and not the old tripod url, but the results still show the old tripod url.

Thanks in advance for your explanations and information, sincerely,
Joanie

I wouldn't worry about your Alexa ranking.

OK, I've just read that article, thank you, it is interesting.

But then let's say I don't really care for the ranking.

What bothers me is more the fact that Graffiti online magazine is still appearing as a tripod website.
Is there any way to change that?

Joanie

My Quality-Web-Hosting.net domain used to be owned by another hosting company. It took Alexa close to a year to realize it was not the same as the other hosting company.

When they did realize it, they seperated the two listings, but moved the comments over to the other company's listing.

Is there a way she can make them realize it sooner?

I send them all sorts of emails - they ignored them all. I wouldn't be surprised if it took several months.

Oh, well, I guess that just means I have to be *very* patient. Thanks.

But I'd ask the same as Sara, is there any way I can make them realize it sooner?

<edit>
Ooops, seems I wasn't fast enough. Thanks John, I'll just wait.

You could try emailing them at customerservice@alexa.com. You never know, you might do better than John did.

I tried changing some contact details for one of my domains at Alexa and it took many months of retrying.
Contacting them and getting a result is a mission

I'm pretty impressed, I got an answer

After what you all said, I wasn't expecting any.

Well there might be a catch.

They say all they want, if the work is not done behind this, then their word is worth nothing.

I'll see.

That's amazing! I've been trying to get ahold of someone at alexa for months now. The send you an email and then tell you that you have to respond to the email at a totally different email address. This is just to get them to change some info.

Can I ask - how much credibility do you think most webmasters assign to Alexa?

A bit like PR, in a sense, while some of the interpretations of the importance or accuracy of the measure might not be very logical, it becomes self fulfilling if a site's ability to attract IBLs depend to some extent upon it's Alexa ranking.

Being relatively new to "webmastery", I'm not aware of how seriously Alexa is generally taken.

A lot of people put more weight into it than they should. I speak to advertisers who base their advertising decisions on Alexa all the time. If you got a high Alexa rank, they seriously believe that you got huge amounts of traffic.

I don't trust Alexa one iota.

For me, as a webmaster, Alexa ranking has no value at all, to answer your question.
