5 sites with 100 links each vs. 500 sites with 1 link each

Is there a difference between getting 100 links from 5 domains vs. 1 link from 500 domains...

Assuming

All pages have same PR
All pages have equal # of links
All other things equal

As an expansion... one of my customers is a manufacturer of sports equipment.... we have an option of placing 500 links on 5 sports related sites (baseball, soccer, football) vs. spreading them across 36 sites (including the 5 sports related) which include many less related sites (no porn, gambling, pharmacies). There is the option of spreading the links as desired...

How would you spread the links?

depends on the power of the sites and how they were hosted in relation to one another and how much traffic those sites got and how you ad was displayed.

usually i would recommend splitting stuff up.

I take 1 link from 500 domain because it have more backlinks which important to improve our PR.

If it's for the sake of backlinks, I would also go for the "1 from 500 Domains". Of course, make sure those domains are of good quality, not just some random sites related with yours, and the placing of links must be properly done.

Most webmasters would rather link build to get their site/s on top of the SERP, that way they can get more organic traffic and sales, rather than linking to some related sites that gives poor traffic, and worst no sales

But as AWALL19 said, it still depends on what you're targeting.

Having a thousand links from 1 let's say 5 PR site is not even close to the same as having a thousand links from 1000 PR 5 sites. When you can spread your backlink to as many sites as possible of course without spamming.

Second one is more powerful then first and will give better results in SERP.

Google counts a link as a vote from other sites to your website so from this logic if you want to win you have to get more votes from different people.
